Anti-Gun Politicians Are Close to Passing VAWA
Anti-gun politicians from both sides of the aisle have been pushing an anti-gun version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), a bill designed to appear nice on the outside, but with infringements on your rights on the inside.
VAWA has several massive anti-gun provisions which would put both men and women in a more dangerous position — one of being disarmed.
GOA has been fighting this anti-gun bill since 2019, but anti-gunners in Congress are closer than ever before to having it pass.
We need you to fight back against this today!
The Good News
VAWA passed the House with tons of gun control last year, but this new version is very different.
Because of pressure from the grassroots, four out of the seven gun-control provisions originally included have been removed, including:
- federal grants to fund firearm seizures;
- a new form of “red flag” gun confiscation orders; and
- an expansion of the Lautenberg misdemeanor gun ban (a.k.a., the “Boyfriend Loophole”).
Removal of the so-called “boyfriend loophole” has made the anti-gun White House and the far-left FURIOUS.
Democrats negotiating this new version of VAWA are being viewed as though they sold out the White House.
In fact, Biden was on national TV giving a speech about gun control just last week and, you guessed it, he was plugging the so-called “boyfriend loophole,” even while this deal was being cut!
The Bad News
Unfortunately, three terrible anti-gun sections are still included in this new VAWA. If this bill passed, the ATF would:
- Work with your local law enforcement to launch criminal investigations into each NICS denial—which 9 out of 10 times is a false-positive denial of a law-abiding citizen.
- Begin deputizing local law enforcement and attorneys to act as agents of the ATF.
Remember our last national alert where we told you the NICS Denial Notification Act was moving in the Senate?
Well, here it is in the Violence Against Women Act, which is potentially headed to the Senate floor for a vote!
Please, take action right now to demand these gun control provisions are removed!
What do criminal penalties for trying to buy a gun and deputizing local ATF agents have to do with stopping violence against women?
Nothing WHATSOEVER.
But don’t lose hope! Your grassroots phone calls and action emails have achieved the removal of even Joe Biden’s top agenda items.
Biden isn’t in control—you are!
Together we’ve gotten this far. Now we need to give it another push so we can get this over the finish line.
What Can the Grassroots Do to Help?
GOA has spent years demanding the removal of all the gun control in VAWA.
Based on this latest draft, we’re more than halfway there, but gun owners in every state need to continue to be loud, vocal, and take action!
The Violence Against Women Act NEVER had anything to do with gun control.
There is no reason this VAWA should be any different.
Its patently obvious that the NICS Denial Notification Act has nothing to do with helping women and everything to do with persecuting innocent gun owners for trying to buy new guns.
For those with Democratic senators, your actions and phone call are more important than ever!
Our action alert message is tailored to appeal to each party, so it is critical that you take action so that Democrat Senators receive this message!
If you live in a state with a Republican Senator, we want you to demand that they stay away from this so-called VAWA “deal” and fight against the remaining gun control.
Since 2019, GOA has demanded the removal of 100% of the gun control from VAWA.
If the anti-gunners relented and removed four sections already, they can remove all seven.
There. Is. No. Excuse. For. Passing. Gun. Control.
Every pro-gun Senator can and should fight this gun control.
Remember last year when the House GOP passed red flag laws in the national defense bill, but the grassroots held them accountable? Gun owners ultimately won the removal of red flag laws.
That’s what we need you to do in the Senate!

We Stop Fighting When We Win
As the only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington DC, GOA will only stand down when all the anti-gun provisions are deleted or the whole bill crashes and burns.
Taking out four of the seven unconstitutional provisions is a step in the right direction, but that’s not good enough.
We need to keep them going in that direction.
When GOA activists like you call and email your Senators and Representatives, they know we mean business.
So keep the pressure going, and demand they do not infringe on your 2ndAmendment rights.
